Quebec racer Mikael Grenier and Conor Daly both claimed victory in the two races held this past weekend at Harrah’s Autobahm Grand Prix in Joliet, Illinois.
Starting from his second pole of the season, Grenier (photo) drove a flawless race in the first round of the weekend. Rounding out the top-3 were Brazilian Caio Lara and American Conor Daly.
"It may have looked pretty easy for me on TV or in the stands, but in the car it was harder," said Grenier, who led every lap of the 45-minute, 17-lap race in his the #17 Andersen Racing car.
"I built up a little bit of a lead so I could relax, but then we had a safety car come out with about five minutes to go, so when the race went green for the final few laps, it was like starting all over again. The Andersen Racing team gave me a great car and we're working hard to do this again tomorrow."
On Sunday, Conor Daly, starting from his sixth pole of the season, scored his fifth victory of the season and set the fastest race lap in the process. Daly finished 3rd in Saturday’s Race 1 / Round 8 after starting from the back of the pack due to a post-race technical infraction. With this victory, Daly extends his lead not only in the series championship battle.
The next event on the 2010 schedule for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear is the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres on the legendary street circuit in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec on August 15.
