Chile native Martin Scuncio captured the pole position of the first Star Mazda Championship's 2011 season race, in St. Petersburg, Florida.
With a final lap of 1:10.921, Scuncio, who had topped Friday's practice, took the pole away from local driver Nick Andries only seconds after he turned his best.
The margin was extremly thin with only .053 seconds separating the two drivers on the chart.
The first race of the season is scheduled for this afternoon, in St. Petersburg.
Sixteen drivers should take the start of the race at 4:10pm.
