According to a study conducted across the North American continent, Canadian auto workers (CAW) are the most productive in North America. The study also shows that unionized workers are more productive than their non-unionized counterparts.

The study indicates that average productivity is 11% higher in Canadian assembly plants than in American ones. What's more, the average productivity of Canadian plants is 35% higher than that of Mexican ones.

For instance, to assemble an automotive vehicle in 2007, a Canadian plant put in 20.71 hours of work, an American plant put in 23.06 hours and a Mexican plant put in 28.03 hours.

The study adds that, on both the Canadian and American sides, productivity is higher with unionized workers than with non-unionized ones. The non-unionized Mexican workers are the least productive on the continent.

Of the ten plants recognized as the most efficient in North America, not one employs non-unionized workers, and four of them are staffed by CAW.
