This fall Subaru is rolling out all-new generations of the Outback and Legacy, and in September we’ll be on hand to take them each for a first test drive.
Meantime, Subaru Canada has announced details and pricing for both the 2020 Outback and 2020 Legacy. Here’s what we can expect.
2020 Subaru Outback
The popular Outback wagon is already on its sixth generation, and Subaru has upgraded it across the line; more specifically the manufacturer has refined what is already a winning recipe. In terms of safety, the EyeSight system is now included standard on all trims, and will feature new functions. LED headlights are now also standard equipment.
As for the mechanics, the Outback is getting a new 2.05L 4-cylinder Boxer engine – new because 90% of its components are new. The promise is of improved performance from the unit that will deliver 183 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. There will also once again be a turbocharged version in the product offering, the XT. This trim runs on a 2.4L Boxer engine generating 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.
The product range will include seven versions in all, and you’ll a table below with pricing for each.
2020 Subaru Legacy
The Legacy, meanwhile, is now on to its seventh generation. It gets the same engine choices as the Outback, meaning buyers can opt for a turbo variant here too.
And like the Outback, the new Legacy sits on the company’s new global platform, which makes use of more high-strength steel, a prerequisite to a more dynamic driving experience. Torsional rigidity a suspension stiffness have been boosted by 70%, although in the case of the forward lateral flexion and of the rear underbody, Subaru say the improvement is 100% over the outgoing product.
The safety improvements mirror those given the Outback, no surprise given that the two models are in reality non-identical twins.
