Subaru Canada today announced pricing and other details for the new 2019 Subaru WRX and 2019 Subaru WRX STI. Starting this summer, Canadian consumers will be able to acquire the new editions of the popular performance models, which offer increased power, advanced systems and the latest connectivity technologies.
The WRX will start at just under the $30,000 mark, while the starting price for the WRX STI is $40,195. Full pricing for each trim is below.
2019 WRX
The new edition gets a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine, making the 2019 WRX a segment-leader in terms of performance, according to the manufacturer. The engine, which generates 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, will be bolted to a 6-speed manual transmission or a sport-tuned Lineartronic CVT with manual mode. And of course there’s legendary Subaru symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
The Subaru WRX is equipped with an Active Torque Vectoring system that supplements the AWD system for improved cornering and more precise handling. Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) provides a precise and enjoyable driving experience, while Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE), available on CVT-equipped models, lets drivers fine-tune the WRX’s power and performance in real time.
Inside, the 2019 WRX gets Subaru’s next-gen infotainment system that comes with either a 6.5-inch or 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen, and includes smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The WRX also offers an higher level of safety, thanks notably to the available EyeSight driver assist technology and LED steering-responsive headlights.
2019 WRX STI
As ever, the 2019 WRX STI is conceived for lovers of performance and driving excitement. It incorporates a 2.5L turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine, but for 2019 output has been increased to 310 hp thanks to a new air intake and high-flow performance exhaust. The six-speed manual transmission features a revised third gear ratio to improve acceleration.
The new WRX STI features a multi-mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) that allows the amount of torque delivered through the Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system to be adjusted as needed. Like the WRX, the WRX STI also features technologies like Active Torque Vectoring and Subaru’s VDC to improve performance, along with an enhanced SI-DRIVE system for even more control.
Like the WRX, all WRX STI models come equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility via the 6.5-inch or 7-inch infotainment system screens, as well as dual USB ports and an auxiliary input.
