Canadian Black Book has released the findings of a national trends with 1000 Canadians poll made in partnership with Ipsos Reid that took the pulse of drivers and auto dealers. The results indicate an even more optimistic outlook for vehicle sales than the industry has been forecasting as almost one-half of all Canadian drivers are eager to get behind the wheel of a newer vehicle.

Twelve per cent of the Quebec drivers surveyed said they expect to replace their vehicle with a new one before 2011, just below the national average of 13 per cent. The highest expectation to trade-up was expressed by Albertans, at 18 per cent, while the lowest was in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, at 6 per cent.

Economic Recovery Is The Key

The survey also pointed out that 43 per cent of Canadian drivers say they were forced to hold onto their current vehicle longer than they would have liked, due to the recession. But now, as the economic picture slowly brightens, 1 in every 2 drivers would like to get a new vehicle with over 1 in 10 driver nationally expressing the desire to make a vehicle trade-in before the New Year.

Women noted confidence in the economic recovery (13 per cent), manufacturer incentives (19 per cent) and interest rates (13 per cent) to motivate their purchase decisions now while the numbers for men were 6, 26 and 28 per cent respectively. Quebec and Atlantic Canada show the highest percentage of drivers who squeeze more kilometres out of their wheels due to harder economic times.

Sean Simpson, a senior research manager for Ipsos Reid says "Canadians have spent the better part of the last two years deferring purchases as a result of the economic recession. But the economy is beginning to rebound and Canadians are becoming ready to start spending again, which is likely driving the pent-up demand we are expecting to see for automobile purchases in the next little while".

Trade In And Buying: Different Viewpoints
The poll revealed that women has increased confidence in economical recovery and their ability to do extensive online research before purchasing a vehicle far outweighed their attraction to low interest rates and rebates. On the other hand, men were largely swayed by manufacturer rebates and lower bank financing. The two sexes however worry equally about the trade-in value a dealer will be willing to pay being much lower than they had hoped for.

This is therefore great news for the automobile industry and buyers, who will be able to help the Canadian economy grow. Anybody looking to change their vehicle before the end of the year or in a near future should always get as much information as possible about the value of the car they want to trade in using different Web sites for individuals and car dealers, reading reviews and gathering information directly from the dealers.
