The race car driver turned automotive craftsman is well known in Japan. Since 2000, he has been designing car body kits and replicas of the Caterham (Lotus) Super 7 bearing the name "Supasse C."
The Supasse V, however, is not just a body kit. Similar in size to the Lotus Exige, the stylish bodywork was penned by designer Kenji Mimura. It reminds us of the Le Mans-spec 2007 Dome S102.
The 2.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood is derived from a Mazdaspeed3 and teams up with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine is mounted on a rear sub-frame bolted to the main structure and therefore offers easy access.
According to Suzusho, the Supasse V is the closest thing on the road that is equal to a competitive racing car like the ones at Le Mans. With a net weight of 850 kilos and 264 horsepower on tap, how can you argue?
