After a few alarming videos of Tesla’s new Autopilot system hit the web, company CEO Elon Musk now wants to remind Model S drivers that they should never let go of the steering wheel. This is still the Beta version of Autopilot, and people should see it more as a driving assist than a fully autonomous, driverless system.
In one of the videos hand-picked by London’s Daily Mail, a driver identified as RockStarTree on YouTube filmed his Model S with Autopilot on. Out of the blue, the car veered into the opposite side of the road, almost hitting an incoming vehicle.
“A devastating head-on collision could have occurred,” he said.
