The all-new Tesla Model X is now available with synthetic leather upholstery for the seats, steering wheel and other interior surfaces. Why? To appeal to potential customers who happen to be vegans.

Veganism the practice of abstaining from the consumption and use of any product that comes from an animal including wool and leather.

The New York Times reports that the synthetic leather option for the Model X comes in a shade Tesla calls “Ultra White.” Supposedly it made no sense for a so-called “eco-friendly” car company to use animal products.

Of course, Tesla isn’t the only automaker to rely on a similar tactic. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Ferrari have also begun offering models with fake leather seating. Ford, meanwhile, has increasingly emphasized the use of greener components like soy foam in their seats.
