Quebec drivers love small cars. Even really, really small cars! Many are looking for a vehicle which is both reliable and economical, and are therefore turning to the Chevrolet Metro and Pontiac Firefly.
Practically unchanged since 1995, these two diminutives are offering a few new features to celebrate the year 2000: anchoring devices for child safety seat, a whole range of radios, and two new exterior colours (a medium blue and a dark blue). You still have the choice between two versions, either the three-door coupe with 3-cylinder 1.0 litre engine, or the sedan with the 4-cylinder 3.1-litre engine.
Their go-anywhere style makes them extremely practical for city driving. Considering their size, their liveability is surprising, and their looks arent't bad either. However, you may want to watch out for the breaks which tend to be unstable, without ABS (unless you pay extra), which makes the car swerve in a emergency situation. Choosing the automatic transmission is not recommended because these tiny engines have to struggle to accommodate a transmission that eats up some of the power available.
Metros and Fireflys, with their attractive quality/price ratio, are ideal for people commuting from the suburbs to downtown, as a second car, or for a student.
