Melanie Turgeon, Genevieve Borne and Martin Matte -- supporters!
Friends and supporters of Gagnon included Melanie Turgeon, who recently retired from the World Cup downhill scene, TV personality Genevieve Borne as well as stand-up comic Martin Matte. They made a few descents with Benoit to encourage him and support him in the final hours of the competition.
In the end, the promoter of the 24 Hours of Tremblant, Simon St-Arnaud, found the best words to describe Gagnon's extraordinary performance:
''Totally incredible and unfathomable. I myself am a regular skier and in good shape, but this guy is in a class of its own! I would never have imagined that such a performance was possible,'' he commented after hugging Gagnon.
Big dollars for sick children
I'm happy to report that a record total of $707,579.94 was handed to the three foundations involved in the 24 Hours of Tremblant. That's approximately $200,000 more than last year.
So, will the bar be set even higher in 2007? Nothing is impossible, especially for such a great cause...
We should ask Pierre Bruneau, of the Charles Bruneau Foundation, to see what he thinks will happen next year...
Congratulations and thanks to all the ambassadors: Benoit Gagnon, Genevieve Borne, Melanie Turgeon, Philippe Fehmiu and Stephane Quintal. Your generous support -- emotional and financial -- helped make this event a huge success.
To all the sponsors and donators, I say 707,000 times: thank you.
Flagworld Communications would like to thank the organizers and the media contact people for their great work and collaboration. We're proud to be associated with the 24 Hours of Tremblant since 2001 and it's our pleasure to show you all our pictures taken during the weekend.
Of course, we hope to see you back in December 2007!
