I for one would like to think so, as it appears to be a well designed product, and something which would fit very nicely into the Nissan lineup in Canada. Another reason for liking that idea is that the Qashqai+2 comes with some economical 4 cylinder engine choices, and the availability of FWD or AWD configurations.
I have to tell you, that after witnessing the new Qashqai+2 first hand, if you already like the lovable Rogue, then you'll fall head over heels for its 7 passenger sibling. Of course, the world of the automobile would be rather boring without rumors, so let's just see what happens!
Alfa Romeo MiTo. While we are on the subject of possible new motoring immigrants to Canada, I'm sure that you've heard about the famous Alfa Romeo brand returning to our shores. With that in mind, I headed to the Alfa stand at the show to take a quick peek at what we might expect to see soon on our side of the pond.
Let me tell you, the company pulled out all the stops at the UK show, with delightful young ladies posing next to all its vehicles. The word stunning immediately came to mind, and no, I'm not talking about the ladies. To be honest, I couldn't even vouch for them being delightful because I spent most of the time waiting for them to move so that I could get a better view of the cars!
The entire Alfa lineup literally made my mouth water, and although they sat there motionless, anyone who as ever owned an Alfa, as I have, could simply imagine what they would sound like in full flight. The sound of any Alfa engine at full bore could make Beethoven's 5th Symphony sound like the Happy Birthday song.
But what about the new MiTo? Well, the MiTo is built on the same chassis as GM's sub-compact Corsa (the smaller brother of the Astra), and comes from a brief alliance between Fiat and General Motors.
Proving that small is beautiful, the MiTo measures just 4.06 metres in length, is 1.44 metres high and 1.72 metres wide. That, and the fact that its exterior can take your breath away, puts it right up against the beloved Mini. With a choice of 3 engines ranging from a 78hp 1.4L, aimed at the younger buyer, to a turbocharged 1.4L producing 155hp, the MiTo range should have a power plant to suit everyone. As I understand, all models come as standard with a 6-speed gearbox, and no mention of an automatic (why anyone would want an automatic in a car like this beats me anyway).
Performance for the top of the range is quoted at 0-100kph - 8 seconds, with a top speed of 215kph. This places it a little shy of the Mini Coopers, and yet handling should be somewhere close, and in the looks department, I think that there is going to be a bit of a battle!
I hope that we shall see the MiTo reach our shores. Mind you, we'll soon know because I think the lineups outside the Alfa dealers should be very easy to spot!
