If the new Ford Focus piqued your curiosity, but its available 160 HP left the sensation-lover in you cold, you’ll be happy to learn that the American carmaker is preparing to unveil a new RS version of the Focus for 2013 or 2014.
Gunnar Hermann, executive in charge of small cars for Ford worldwide, spoke with the Australian daily the Sydney Morning Herald and confirmed that the next version could be even more powerful than the limited edition RS500. This last version offered up an impressive 350 HP thanks to a 5-cylinder, turbo-compressed engine developed by Volvo.
The Swedish-made engine will, however, likely not be used in the new Focus. Not surprisingly, a turbo-compressed Ecoboost 4-cylinder will serve as the beating heart of the beast. Currently this engine offers up 247 HP, but the engineers at Ford are trying to inject it with a healthy dose of steroids, to our great pleasure.
The only downside to all this is that we’ll have to wait several months before we can get our hands on a test vehicle to see what it’s made of. Still, the news of the re-launch is definitely most welcome!
