Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that compared to last year, the Montreal auto show forecasts sunny skies.
First of all, GM seems to be in the process of getting back on its feet. Their stand now decorated with both North American Car and Truck of the Year, and with the announcement of several interesting new models, the morale over there is pretty good.
Mitsubishi can be proud of its new Lancer; it is absolutely stunning in the flesh. We can say the same for the Outlander and its innovative fold-down hatch. Here too, with a real display at the show this year, people are smiling more than ever. Their Asian vice-president even pronounced his speech in comprehensible French, although he can't speak the language at all (according to a Mitsu staffer). Good job!
I also applaud the beauty of the new Hyundai Veracruz. Its look is a cross between a Santa Fe and an Elantra, and the result is very interesting.
Curiously, the show's itinerary didn't seem simpler that last year, despite the claims of the show's organizers. Also, a car show should dazzle the public with wild concepts and extraordinary prototypes; Montreal doesn't seem very spoiled in this regard. The Shelby GR-1 concept deserves a stop at the Ford stand, however, because it's a very gorgeous showpiece.
Attention, full-size pickup fans: this is the year you've been waiting for at Ford (2008 Super Duty), GM (Silverado and Sierra) and Toyota (Tundra and Tundra Crew Max). They're big... no, they're huge.
