It's no secret that this Sunday, February 6th 2011, is Super Bowl day. Men everywhere in North America will be converging in front of flat screens, stuffing their faces with hot-wings, beer, burgers and chips. Amen!

Automakers, knowing full-well that guys not only love sports (especially if they're not playing it), love cars. They are hoping that most will not be too drunk or sleeping during the game as no fewer than 15 commercials will be paid for by car manufacturers.

Audi, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Volkswagen and Suzuki have all invested eye-watering sums, $3 million for 30 seconds, to have their products viewed by an estimated 90 million people around the globe.

The question we ask ourselves has to do with bang for the buck. Are the marketing departments making a smart move burning through budgets on Super Bowl hype?
