An impressive collection of Lotus vehicles

Birmingham, Alabama - Created by George Barber, an influential milk industrialist in Alabama, the museum that bears his name is first and foremost a motorcycle museum. It is part of a vast autosport complex, one that includes a road course where international sports car and motorcycle races are held. This is also the North American home of Porsche's Sport Driving School.

Enthusiasts will discover in the museum an historic collection of over 500 motorcycles and scooters from every brand and every kind. A similar amount of models are preserved inside special warehouses or lent to other museums. The highlight of the tour is the amazing collection of Lotuses -- one of the largest in the world. George Barber was a big fan of Porsche, but primarily of Lotus: Lotus Elite, Lotus Elan (the ancestor of the Miata), a 1968 Lotus Type 47, F3 and F1.

The museum also holds a few rare species, such as a 1964 Ferrari F1 belonging to John Surtees, a Gurney-Eagle belonging to Dan Gurney and several cars from the Barber Racing Team. Being a huge Porsche enthusiast and driver, Mr. Barber obviously added to his impressive collection the various Porsches he drove or revered over the years.
