The Cadillac Escalade has come to symbolize wealth and prestige, which is why it also tops the list of the most stolen vehicles in North America. General Motors is fully aware of that and plans to reverse the trend beginning with the 2012 model.
Following the latest Highway Loss Data Institute report on car theft rates, which the Escalade dominated for the fourth straight year, GM’s global lead of vehicle theft prevention Bill Biondo detailed four new pieces of ''armour'' currently being implemented.
These include an improved version of the steering column lock system to prevent the push away theft, an inclination sensor that sounds when the angle of the vehicle is modified (such as towing), a shock sensor that detects things like breaking glass to reduce the theft of items left inside the vehicle, and finally an upgraded wheel lock system to prevent wheel and tire theft.
OnStar is also an option on the Escalade. The system can locate, immobilize and disable stolen vehicles.
GM has tried to address the issue for years, making the job of criminals harder than ever, yet it is unable to drop from the top of the HLDI list.
If the new protection devices fail, here are some creative ideas for 2013:

- Provide the services of a security guard for the first year;
