London is currently hosting the 2008 British International Motor Show. Subaru was there to showcase three spiced-up Impreza models.
First, the Impreza WRX-S boasts enhanced performance and styling compared to the regular WRX. The $5,000 package includes improved engine management and a less restrictive exhaust system. The result is a 25-horsepower gain (255 at 5,400 rpm) for the 2.5L boxer engine, not to mention 52 additional pounds-feet of torque (for a total of 288). Thusly powered, the WRX-S is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. In the looks department, the car receives 18-inch alloy wheels as well as an STI-sourced grille, front bumper and rear spoiler.
Europeans looking for more power will now have the Impreza WRX STI 330S. Under the hood is a turbocharged engine producing 330 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 347 pounds-feet of torque at 6,000 rpm. Accelerations from 0 to 60 mi/h (96 km/h) have been clocked at 4.4 seconds. In addition to all the features of the regular STI, this upgraded model gets leather-wrapped Recaro sports seats, a navigation system and keyless entry.
The highest-performing car of the bunch is the new Impreza WRX STI 380S. While details remain scarce, we do know that the engine has been specially tuned by Prodrive to deliver up to 380 horsepower. The suspension, exhaust and body kit are all unique to this model. Finally, 18-inch BBS alloys and 245/40R18 tires are included.
Both the WRX-S and STI 330S will be sold in Europe, while the 380S hasn't gotten the green light yet. No word on the North American market.
