9. Honda Odyssey
Yet another example of the near-omnipresence of utility vehicles at Detroit 2017. Honda unveiled the new generation of its signature minivan, and darned if its contours have not generated more controversy than ever. At first glance it looks like nothing’s changed on the outside, but then a series of details become apparent that point to changes brought in by the Honda design team. The front end is in fact almost entirely new, and the side walls are more sculpted than before. On the other hand, the new Odyssey keeps the same beltline with its lower rear section, a feature that has characterized the model for several years now. In general, an examination that goes beyond the initial impressions is needed to properly evaluate this minivan. Its interior, for example, is more sophisticated than ever and even includes a camera that allows the driver to see what’s going on in the rear rows of seats – Big Brother is watching, indeed. The 3.5L V6 engine can be coupled with either a 9-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission.
