8. Chevrolet Traverse/ GMC Terrain
Even though the two models are not classed in the same segment, it’s difficult to consider them independently of each other since they both constitute evolutions of models already introduced by the carmaker under different banners. The Terrain is actually the GMC division’s take on the Chevrolet Equinox. The former borrows the latter’s engine setup, a 1.6L turbo-diesel motor that sets the Terrain apart from its competitors, promising as it does improved performance as well as greater fuel economy. The overall look of the new edition is much better balanced than its predecessor, a vehicle that had nonetheless set sales records over the years, with over 700,000 units sold.

As for the Chevy Traverse, it was expected that the new version would be smaller than before, as was the case with the GMC Acadia. But as Chevrolet no longer has a minivan, and wants to press its advantage vis-à-vis the Buick Enclave and the aforementioned Acadia, the company chose to slightly increase its dimensions instead. Available engines include a 3.6L V6 and a 2.L 4-cylinder turbo, both wedded to a 9-speed automatic transmission box.
