When a pickup is out of the question

While a certain percentage of RVers have adopted pickup trucks to pull their home on wheels, many still prefer large SUVs, if only because they allow for accommodating more passengers. In essence, what these consumers are getting is an immense family car mounted on a truck chassis. Obviously, this choice precludes using a fifth-wheel configuration, but the robust chassis of these SUVs do allow for hauling hefty recreational vehicles.

1. Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL

A decided favorite of consumers in this category, this full-size SUV from General Motors (the Yukon is basically the twin of the Tahoe) is available in two lengths: the Tahoe/Yukon, a sort of oversized family vehicle with 4 doors, and the larger Suburban/Yukon XL, which rests on an elongated chassis. This version is certainly the most sought-after for pulling RVs, due in large part to its 6.2L V8 engine able to produce 420 HP. And yet, performance-wise the Tahoe/Yukon with the 3.5L, 355 HP engine does it one better, with a higher pulling capacity that ranges up to 8,500 lbs!
