8. 1st generation (1973-1979)
Small, affordable, and fuel-efficient, the original Honda Civic arrived like a big breath of fresh air at a time when the world faced its first oil crisis. Many consumers jumped on it, whether in coupe, hatchback (with three or five doors) or wagon format. The eventual introduction of the CVCC engine made it even more efficient. By the way, a platform expansion of this Civic gave birth to the Honda Accord.
