17. Intersection of Hunts Point and Seneca Avenues, 1981

Buses like these were a familiar sight up in Montreal as well. Their design certainly gave colour and character to the cities they were used in. Notice the dilapidated state of the building on the left. On a modern photo, you can see that it has been completely refurbished to accommodate new tenants.
18. Intersection of 10th Avenue and 20th Street, 1985

We made a small leap in our gallery to 1985, but frankly the scene had not changed much since the turn of the decade before. In fact, it was not until the administration of Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the 1990s that the city really took charge of its own affairs. The work had quietly begun in the mid-1980s. In this photo, it’s amusing to see a Chevrolet Citation and a 2002 BMW, two cars fairly unlikely to end up together in a collector's garage.
19. 120th Street, 1970

Another picture worth a thousand words. Of course, car enthusiasts will recognize a 1961 Oldsmobile parked on the street, but here it’s accompanied by an incredible scene from everyday life. People seem to be relaxed and even though a child approaches a burning trash can (!), there doesn’t seem to be reason to worry too much about his safety. Different times, as they say.
20. The intersection of 79th Street and Broadway, 1972

More GM buses of the time. It is, however, the 1971-72 Ford Country Squire on the right that caught our attention.
