9th place: 2022 Nissan Sentra S w/ manual transmission $19,498 + $1,830 in fees
As we hit the ninth spot on our most-affordable ride list, we dive under the 20-grand mark – well OK, dip our toes beneath it, more like – and find a compact sedan that managed to surprise us when we test drove it earlier in the year.
Here, the manual transmission is required equipment if you want to take advantage of the sub-$20,000 price point. Get used to it, that’s the format from here on in.
It's doesn’t cease to amaze us that a compact sedan as well put together as the Sentra is more affordable than a Nissan Versa Note disguised as an SUV (the Kicks). With the exception of the more practical hatchback format of the Kicks, the Sentra really has no reason to envy the little crossover.
