Microlino « Isetta »
Well, the name “Isetta” isn’t actually used by the tiny little Swiss company that builds the Microlino, but there’s no question the classic BMW microcar is what they’re referencing, what with the front-opening door and all. Other than that, the Microlino is a full-EV car good for about 200 km depending on battery size. That’s not a huge amount, but when you consider that Mincrolino says the average European only drives 35 km daily, you should be good to go. And you can park it perpendicular to the curb, which is nice.
Daihatsu Copen
Sitting firmly in the “cool cars we can’t have” category is the little Daihatsu Copen. Technically a kei car, it still looks like some of the most fun you can have on four wheels. Sure, the tiny four-cylinder turbo only makes about 68 hp, but its light weight means you can still hit about 170 km/h if you have the time. Plus, it only costs about 15 grand, so there’s that.
