6)Mazdaspeed3 ($32,995)
The most German of the Japanese offerings features a build quality reminiscent of the smaller BMWs, just like the black-on-black…on black interior. The Mazdaspeed may not benefit from all-wheel drive nor the sequential transmission of the Ralliart, but its ultra-stiff chassis and 263-head stable make for a formidable sports car.
7)Volkswagen GTI ($28,675 to $29,675)
With the 200 hp deployed by its 4-cylinder turbo mill, the GTI isn’t the most powerful of the lot. However, the combination of this engine with the remarkable DSG transmission makes driving this VW great fun. Very affordable, it allows you to choose between 3- and 5-door configurations for about a 1,000-dollar difference.
8)Porsche Cayman ($63,900 to $75,800)
This Boxster coupe could qualify as an all-season vehicle. Some purists will claim it’s the least powerful Porsche coupe. Whatever. It most certainly remains the most affordable of the lot, and more practical than a 911 Carrera to boot. What’s more, the power-to-weight ratio of the S variant is nearly as high as the 911’s!
