Best three-row SUVs: Volkswagen Atlas
The biggest Volks-badged SUV sometimes left aside by those making best-of rankings because of its touchy reputation when it comes to reliability. In terms of meeting the needs of families, however, the Atlas fits the bill so well it can’t be ignored. Even with five booster seats in place the available space impressed the Parents panel.
The jury also pointed at its relatively stingy fuel consumption, however it should be noted that the numbers cited in the Parents ranking refer to the version equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, unit that struggles to properly power this massive German machine. For practical purposes it’s best to go with the Atlas with V6 engine. You’ll pay more at the pump but that unit is better suited to the job at hand.
