6 – Jeep J Series 1971-1988
AMC’s acquisition of Kaiser meant that it now owned the Jeep brand, which opened the door for it into the 4x4 vehicle domain. The previous decade had seen sales of that vehicle type blow up by some 500%. Competition was consequently ferocious, and Jeep had actually struggled at times during that period. Despite that, it still held 20% of the market in the segment. As for the pickup shown here, the Gladiator name was now a thing of the past, replaced by the simple J-Series designation.
