The origins of the Reliant Company date back to 1935. The company's focus at the time was to produce three-wheeled delivery vehicles powered by Austin Seven engines.

The Regal was their first production car, debuting in 1953. During the 1970s, production of the Regal was at its peak, which amounted to about 350 vehicles per week. That model expired in 1973, though Reliant continued on until 2003.
