In recognition of 25 years of making cars in Canada, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) hosted a celebration at the new Waterloo Region Museum and donated 10 RAV4 vehicles to local community groups.

In 1986, TMMC broke ground on its Cambridge plant site, planning to employ 1,000 and build 50,000 vehicles per year.

Since then, employment has grown to more than 6,500 and more than 458,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles were built, exceeding by more than nine times the original projections.

The company has invested $5.6 billion in its plant and facilities over the past 25 years and now exploits three vehicle assembly plants in Ontario - two in Cambridge, which manufacture the Lexus RX350 and Toyota Corolla, and one in Woodstock, birthplace of the Toyota RAV4.

Celebrating alongside regional leaders and representatives of provincial and federal governments, Toyota President Akio Toyoda declared that "TMMC has become one of Toyota's largest, most successful manufacturing operations in the world and has done so by consistently exceeding expectations".
