The Toyota Motor Corporation has developed a new airbag that will protect rear passengers' heads in case of a rear-end collision. The company even plans on including the safety feature in the upcoming iQ, an ultra-compact four-seater.
Installed in the roof lining above the rear window, the SRS (Supplement Restraint System) rear window curtain shield airbag deploys between the headrests and acts as a barrier to reduce the impact to the head.
This new feature comes as the Toyota Motor Corporation announces it will continue work on creating safer vehicles and technologies in an effort to strengthen its traffic safety initiatives.
Toyota also plans on participating actively in the creation of a safe driving environment by organizing activities to educate people on traffic safety.
By those actions, the company hopes to contribute "to the complete elimination of traffic casualties, which can be viewed as the ultimate hope of a society that values mobility," according to a press release.
