Unbuckled and Unsafe - Why?

My son is now 15 and free to sit in the front seat given that he is of sufficient size. Prior to his growth spurt, we carefully followed the rules around seating children in the rear, due to the danger to children posed by frontal airbags. Yes, in many late model cars the airbag is automatically deactivated when the occupant’s weight doesn't meet the threshold. Nonetheless, rear seat survival is much greater than front seat survival in a devastating crash, so in the rear he sat irrespective of a deactivated airbag.

I'm quite disturbed when I see adults driving with children that are either needlessly seated in the front, or worse yet, not buckled up or in an weight/size-appropriate child seat. I'm sure that you've seen it as often as I have: youngsters frolicking around inside the car entirely unrestrained as parents weave their way through the hazards of crowded motorways.

I just don't get it - why endanger your most precious cargo so thoughtlessly? So recklessly? Has anybody got the courage to step up to the plate and tell me? I’ve seen them, I know they're out there. Now I'd like to hear from them. I’d like one such offender to simply justify to me why they are willing to compromise the safety of a child. Maybe my priorities are screwed up? Here’s a soccer ball son, go play on the freeway.
