First we had the coupe, then the sedan, and now it's the cabriolet that completes this 2008 M3 triple onslaught of performance from BMW. With more than a $10,000 premium over its roofed siblings, the $81,900 M3 Cabriolet can be taken in here at the Vancouver International Auto Show almost two months before it reaches showroom floors.

The M3 Cabriolet's hardtop takes 22 seconds to drop, triggered either within the car or by remote. Doing so betters the driver's audition to the (oil temperature dependent) variable 8,400 rpm red line of the 414 horsepower 4-litre V8. The mechanical power of this car is routed to the rear wheels through a smart rear differential, and is only rivalled by the power of its presence.

The 0-100 km/h run takes 5.1 seconds utilizing the seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, which is two tenths quicker than with the traditional six-speed manual transmission. The M3 Cabriolet is slowed slightly due to some extra weight, in part from an effort to increase torsional stiffness and reinforce the A-pillar; the latter works with an active rear roll bar and taller side airbags to help in a rollover.

Hopefully the car's electronic nannies will tame its lust for powersliding and prevent any loss of control; furthermore, consider winter rubber mandatory if you even think about using the car's rear pass through to carry skis.

Far more likely though is that this convertible will be used to carry a couple sets of golf clubs. Additionally, when referring to the driver, BMW is predicting their sex by talking about the "experience he enjoys in his new BMW M3 Cabriolet." Oh, what an incredible experience he'll have.
