AJAX, ONTARIO -
Volkswagen Canada announced that it increased its sales by 12.3% in November over the same time period in 2008 as it sold 3,190 new vehicles after its new 2010 Golf TDI Clean Diesel was named the Green Vehicle of the Year last week by Auto123.com.

Retail deliveries of its new 2010 Golf Family models, including the new Golf, new Golf Wagon, and new Golf GTI, helped drive Volkswagen's sales upwards. Consumers responded positively to the news that the 2010 new Golf Wagon was voted by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) as Canada's Best New Family Sedan (under $30k), and that the 2010 Golf GTI is the Best New Sports / Performance Car (under $50k) in Canada. Both the new Golf hatchback and Golf Wagon are available with Volkswagen's award-winning TDI Clean Diesel engine, which together with sales of its Jetta and Touareg SUV, accounted for 35% of the Ajax-based company's overall sales to Canadians for the month.

Sales of other Volkswagen models also rose rapidly versus November 2008, including its GTI of Small SUVs, the Tiguan (+118%), and the Passat (+16%).

With one month left before the close of the 2009 calendar year, Volkswagen has delivered 36,854 new vehicles in Canada from January to November up by 1.2% in a Canadian new vehicle market that is down by 12.5% year-to-date.

Volkswagen has gained 30 points of market share versus the same time period in 2008 for a total of 2.7% from January to November 2009.
