Chevrolet's SSR (for Super Sport Roadster) was all the rage at the concept car media show because it speaks directly to the memories of Boomers and the tastes of Gen-Xers, in one of those rare confluences of desire.

Anyone over 40 will instantly see the Chevrolet El Camino, which was half-sedan, half-pickup and enjoyed a vogue about 30 years ago. Anyone under 30 will just see a hot shape with a muyo macho 6-litre V8 sending power to the rear wheels, which makes this like the El Corvetto. The coolest thing about this toy could be that the roof retracts and stores between the seats and the pickup bed.

If I had to bet, I'd say that some highly recognizable version of the SSR makes it into production as soon as possible. Here's a niche crying out to be filled.

We're absolutely going to see something very much like the other Chevrolet concept vehicle, the Traverse. This is yet another one of GM's "watch this space" billboards promising a bunch of crossover vehicles with a sedan's ride and refinement and an SUV's or minivan's versatility on an all-wheel-drive platform.

Here again we see the split-fold rear seats producing a big, flat cargo space and a "smartback" tailgate crafted to increase loading and unloading ease.
