According to a report by Britain's Autocar, Porsche recently was granted a request to have the “GT5” name trademarked. Let the speculation begin!

In the past, Porsche has made a habit of naming its flagship performance models after the FIA classes in which they compete (the 911 GT3 is one such example). However, there is no such thing as a GT5 class at the moment. Who knows? Maybe Porsche has plans to create the ultimate Panamera or Macan and call it this way.

When asked about these possibilities by Autocar, a company spokesperson refused to comment on what Porsche's future product might be.

Last year, the German automaker ended rumours of a baby Porsche that would rival the Mazda MX-5. Porsche Cars North America CEO Detlev von Platen said at the Paris Auto Show that we wouldn't see anything lower than the current Boxster model because the time is not right.

Have things changed since then? What exactly will the future Porsche GT5 look like? Stay tuned...
