Engine braking and take off

When the road is slippery, use the lower gears of the transmission. Cancel the overdrive and downshift smoothly. Your vehicle will use the engine braking to slow down more easily. If you drive a manual car, use the second or even the third gear to take off while gently depressing the clutch pedal. You'll be surprised to see your car take off without any wheelspin or skidding. If you drive an automatic car, you can use the second gear to help you.

Safety kit

An energy bar, a warm blanket, plastic bags to cover your shoes if you need to step out of the vehicle without your boots, a non-melting candle... such items can prove to be very useful while waiting for a tow truck or an emergency vehicle.

Never leave your vehicle. Rather, stay inside and wait. It's also a good thing to regularly fill up the fuel tank and the windshield washer fluid tank.

Enjoy your winter time on the road!
