The 2008 Subaru WRX STI went on sale at Subaru dealerships today across Japan with a complete revision to the engine, chassis and features.
The original's recipe for success remains: a turbocharged boxer engine, symmetrical AWD and the associated experience that these two technologies bring when used together with one another. For 2008, drivers can make the best of the STI's power and technology with a selection of electronic systems like a multi-mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential and Vehicle Dynamics Control.
Inside STI, Subaru promises an irresistible experience. A vehicle information display keeps drivers up to speed on running data, while special badging, instruments and accent lighting help set the high performance model apart. Depending on owner intentions, Available Recaro seats can be specified for even more lateral support.
Powering the high performance model is a new two-litre turbocharged engine with 308 horsepower which spins the AWD system through a six-speed manual gearbox. Drivers can also utilize Subaru's Si-Drive system to customize engine behavior through throttle mapping and turbocharger characteristics. A similar 2.5 litre engine will be fitted to the North American models.
Other features have been installed to the 08 STI to make it even more usable and friendly than ever before. Standard features include headlight washers, an alarm system, keyless entry and push-button start, and a hard-drive based navigation system is available too. There's even a hill-hold assist function which aims to keep the car from rolling back when it's stopped on a hill.
