Gabriele Tarquini (Seat) clinched 2009 World Touring Car Championship title, today in Macau.
The Italian driver was in competition with teammate Yvan Muller, 2008 world champion, who was only two points behind him in provisional classification before Macau.
Both drivers were involved in an heavy crash in qualifying, when Muller spun and Tarquini couldn’t avoid him and slammed into his car. Both were taken to hospital, but were ok for the race.
While Huff’s Chevrolet took victory in Race 1, Tarquini get closer to the title with a second place finish, with Muller only 5th.
Although Muller get a podium finish in race 2, Tarquini secure championship win with 5th position. Farfus’ BMW took victory in Race 2.
