Ford uses the "menacing" Monotone Black exterior of the limited-edition Harley-Davidson Package as the face of the 2006 lineup of its F-Series pickups.

Other than the ninth model to come out of the deal between the mobility icons in Dearborn and Milwaukee, not much is new on the world's best-selling line of full-size pickups.

To be sure, there is optional traction assist on all 4x2 V-8 models, a new 20-inch wheel option for the FX4, Lariat and King Ranch models, a Décor Package on the base (LX) trim, an XLT and Lariat Chrome Package, Smokestone Clearcoat Metallic pain on the Lariat, five-inch chrome tubular running boards on STX, XLT, FX and Lariat models, and a SuperCrew model with an optional 6.5-foot cargo box and a flex-fuel 5.4-litre Triton V-8 coming later.

But aside from the optional traction assist, which would be very useful in the parts of Canada that get regular visits from winter, that list is pretty esoteric. It would also be worth digger deeper into the brochures at your Ford pickup store or the company's own website to see what other possible delights for 2006 might await you.

So it's no wonder that Ford is using that new Harley-Davidson model as its news hook for 2006.

According to the company, the 2006 Ford Harley-Davidson SuperCab has "hot-rod-inspired custom looks that communicate power."

That "menacing" Black Monotone exterior is accented with a scalloped red stripe outlined in electric blue running along the beltline, punctuated with the "Harley-Davidson" script. The custom stripe creates a sense of motion and speed, while a bold front-end design features a chrome billet grille and blacked-out headlamps.

Based on a SuperCab configuration with a 6.5-foot Styleside box, the new 2006 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 is said have a menacing profile as well. Beefy 22-inch polished forged aluminum rims -- the largest offered on any full-sized pickup -- sport a split five-spoke design, exposed lug nuts and the distinctive Bar & Shield logo on the center cap. The massive wheels "give this ride undeniable attitude,'' says Ford, along with a fairly stiff ride, says I.

Chrome-accented side tubes help create an integrated appearance, and substantial zinc die-cast badges on the fenders celebrate the Ford Harley-Davidson alliance. Dark tinted smoked-out taillamps, a blacked-out bumper and the "Harley-Davidson F-150" badge distinguish the rear.

The interior features a flood of chrome, including the rings on the instruments, and handles, vent rings, floor shifter and door pulls. Adding to the overall custom feel is a serialized nickel plate showing the vehicle's production date and number.

The Triton 24-valve V-8 creates 300 hp and 365 lb-ft to power the 2006 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150, and a specially-tuned exhaust delivers a throaty rumble that might remind some of the motorcycle's distinctive tempo.

For more than straight-line speed, the truck includes a performance sport handling suspension that's tuned to deliver a more precise driving feel.
