Completing a triple-update of their 911 model lineup, Porsche's new 911 Targa is readying for launch.
The latest Targa will be available in Targa 4 and Targa 4S designations, and each is topped with a 16.58 square-foot glass roof with sunshade- allowing owners to switch from open-topped to coupe-like driving in a matter of seconds. The glass roof slides under the tailgate in its open position, which is achieved in about 7 seconds.
Inside, the 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S feature a touch-screen communication system called Porsche Communication Management (PCM). PCM carries a hard-drive based navigation system with Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, a USB port and satellite radio. The PCM system can also be fitted with a hard-drive based navigation system and is capable of conveying Nav-Traffic reports to the driver, helping them to arrive at their destination on time.
The new Targa engine lineup works towards the same goal. Two direct-injected flat-six engines can be had- either a 3.6 liter with 345 horsepower, or a 3.8 liter with 385. A PDK Porsche- Doppelkupplungsgetriebe is also available, replacing the Tiptronic S gearbox in former models. Doppelkupplungsgetriebe is German for double-clutch gearbox, by the way.
The new glass-topped 2009 Porsche 911 Targa models will join their coupe and cabriolet siblings which are already on sale.
