History repeats: the Ford F-150 was named Pickup of the Year during the 2018 Auto123.com Awards ceremony, held this past November 22nd in Toronto. It beat out the two other finalists in the category, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and the Nissan TITAN XD.
Three years on from the launch of the next-generation F-150 and its high-resistance aluminum body, it continues to boss the others around with it contemporary styling, a number of cutting-edge technologies, a 10-speed automatic transmission exclusive in its category and the most highly-evolved set of F-150 engines made to date.
While we await the 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 engine, expected next spring, the new 2018 F-150 before us now does feature an excellent 3.3L V6 as a standard motor, which is more powerful and delivers more torque than the old 3.5L; the new 2.7L EcoBoost V6 and the heavyweight 5.0L V8 are no slouches, either. Both of these have benefited from improvements as well with the addition of fuel-saving automatic stop/start technology.
In terms of safety, with its pre-collision warning system with pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control with automatic braking, both still exclusive in the category, the 2018 Ford F-150 is a very active driver’s assistant in traffic and on the road.
Also worth noting is the available Wi-Fi access, which allows occupants to stay connected while on the move. Unsurprisingly, the F-150 was a Kelly Blue Book best buy pick for the segment; ditto for Motor Trend and several other widely recognized automotive magazines and websites.
