Small cars are big news at this year's auto show circuit, and Chevrolet is gearing up to launch a new production-confirmed model called the Spark at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Based on the Chevrolet Beat concept, millions of internet voters told the automaker that they wanted the Spark produced. Accordingly, it will be available for sale in Europe in early 2010, followed by 'other global markets' thereafter.

Chevrolet says the Spark intends to deliver top levels of style, fuel economy and value to its owners when it goes on sale, and that it breaks the typical mini-car mold with its youthful, fun and fashion-conscious look.

A pre-release photograph shows a surprisingly sculpted body, alloy wheels, roof-rails and a distinctively dynamic shape to the greenhouse. Integrated rear door handles work towards the Spark's clean and unified look, and the model rides a 2,375 mm wheelbase and boasts an overall length of 3,640 mm.

Under the hood, European shoppers will get a choice of either 1.0 or 1.2 litre four cylinder engines with excellent fuel efficiency and emissions ratings. Safety features are numerous, though GM says their inclusion will vary between global markets.

The Geneva Motor Show opens March 5th.
