It's been a busy few weeks for General Motors, who has just announced a refresh for their Pontiac G6 lineup. Shoppers can expect more fuel-efficient powertrain options, some interior updates a more pronounced exterior style when the model goes on sale in January.

Specifically, the interior receives a new instrument panel and some color combination and trim updates. A new MY LINK system is available to integrate Bluetooth, satellite radio, OnStar and audio into a single interface as well.

Outside, the G6 will gain a more aggressive front end style adapted from the G8 sedan, including chrome grille surrounds and a honeycomb pattern carried into the lower air-dam. New headlights and a new spoiler round out the package alongside larger dual exhaust outlets and a new wheel style.

For the first time, the G6 coupe will be available with a 164 horsepower 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine paried with a six-speed automatic that's capable of excellent mileage. Steering wheel mounted paddle-shifting is also included. Other engine choices remain unchanged.

"The G6 has always been one of our most important vehicles and has been Pontiac's number-one seller since it was launched in 2004," said Susan Docherty, VP of Buick-Pontiac-GMC. "As the most complete family of mid-size vehicles available in the marketplace, the new enhancements for 2009 will further solidify the G6's reputation for sporty style and handling without sacrificing value and fuel efficiency."

The interior upgrade makes its way to all models, though the uniquely styled GXP will not be available with the updated exterior or powertrain components.
