Pointe-aux-Trembles, Quebec - How often do you see a car becoming a collector's item as soon as it hits the market? Almost never. By creating a special edition dedicated to Ron Fellows, General Motors is honoring a famous Canadian driver as well as its sporty Chevrolet division throughout the world. It's quite a tribute that GM is paying to this Torontoan, who's still alive today. It shows the tremendous respect and admiration the American automaker has for one of its legends.

Revered all across Canada

Ron Fellows is well known by Canadians, especially the fans of Mosport and Trois-Rivières. He won the 1989 Players/GM Challenge Championship and took part in several racing series such as Formula Atlantic and the Turbo Porsche Rothmans Cup. He also won 19 races in the Trans-Am series.

Member of the Chevrolet Racing Team
Following this championship, Ron Fellows joined the Chevrolet Racing Team in 1995. He was actively involved in the development of the track-tuned C5 Corvette. By 2000, he had already won his first race for Chevrolet. In a span of six years, Fellows became a three-time winner of the ALMS GT1 Championship (2002-2004), each time at the wheel of a Corvette. In addition, he was the first Canadian to win the 24 Hours of Daytona (2001).

Consecration of a great racer
GM's Chevrolet division is making a bang with the marketing of 399 specially trimmed Z06 Corvettes. Three hundred of them will be available in the U.S, 33 in Canada and 66 elsewhere in the world. Interestingly, it's the first special edition Corvette in Chevrolet's 54-year history. The Z06 is without question a nice-looking car, but the Ron Fellows version has the makings of a great automotive classic.
