Tundra's body sits on a frame, which delivers that truck-like ride that so many people are starting to weary of. It also has fully independent, double wishbone front suspension with coil springs, low-pressure nitrogen gas shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar mounted on the upper A-arm, and a solid-axle rear suspension with lengthened leaf springs and bias-mounted, low-pressure nitrogen shocks to handle heavy loads.

The Regular Cab's "comfortable full-fabric front bench seat easily accommodates three people," says Wearing. Passenger comfort and convenience are enhanced with air conditioning, in-dash CD player, 12 volt power outlets, sun visors, door map pockets, front cup holders, cargo tie downs and a bright cargo bed light.

The Access Cab also allows passengers to enter and exit through rear-hinged doors that swing back 94 degrees and open using the convenient exterior-mounted door handles. A front bench with fold down centre console and 60/40 split is standard on the base 4x4 SR5 Access Cab model. In the rear, the armrest flips down to reveal dual cup holders.

For extra style and/or utility, says Wearing, Access Cab V-8s are also equipped with a Class III receiver towing hitch, seven-pin trailer wire harness, power windows and door locks, retained accessory power, power remote heated chrome mirrors, map lamps, keyless entry, overhead storage, chrome bumpers and trim, styled steel wheels, large P265/70R16 tires and colour-keyed door handles.

In addition to the new TRD Yamaha Special Edition package, Wearing notes, Toyota offers a range of optional equipment so owners can equip their trucks to best suit their tastes and needs.

For example, Wearing says, an OffRoad Package on the 4x4 Access Cab V8 adds both "capability and comfort" with 16-inch alloy wheels with white lettered tires and wheel locks, Bilstein shock absorbers, an in-dash 6-CD changer, captain's seats, foldable armrests for front passengers, cushion seat height adjustment for the driver, rear seat heater ducts, a sliding rear window, privacy glass, fog lamps, front centre console box, front seatback pockets, colour-keyed fender flares, styled splash guards, and TRD decals.

Or there's the Tundra Limited 4X4 V8, which "adds an extra level of luxury," including an auto dimming rear view mirror, front leather captain's seats, steering wheel audio controls, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated power exterior mirrors and a convenient multi-function centre console.

The Tundra Double Cab is equipped with a vertical power sliding full rear window with rear defroster, Wearing points out, noting that it's similar to the power sliding window on the full-sized Sequoia SUV in design and operation. "Combined with completely retractable power windows on all four doors and an optional power sliding moonroof," he says, "the Tundra Double Cab offers passengers an expansive, spacious feeling. For added versatility, the front seat is now a 60/40 split folding bench, with captain's chairs added to the OffRoad Package."

Inside its cabin, Tundra Double Cab creates an "exceptional atmosphere of comfort and convenience," Wearing insists. Standard equipment includes a six-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system, keyless entry, power windows and door locks, illuminated entry, an electric rear window defroster with timer, as well as cruise control.

To this, the Tundra 4X4 Double Cab Limited adds such luxurious features as an auto dimming rear view mirror, leather seating surfaces, heated front seats with power-adjustable driver's seat, exterior temperature display, compass, unique exterior styling cues, a premium 8-speaker JBL sound system with AM/FM/cassette/CD changer, rear seat audio controls, two sets of headphones and steering wheel audio controls.

That all makes for a decent range of pickup choices. Not anything near as wide a range as what's offered by Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford or GMC, to be sure, but decent. Toyota's intent to make even more truck models available can only be good news for the consumer.
