2001 Audi TT Coupe - Insanely Fun!

Anticipation can be torturous. Attempting to go to sleep on Christmas Eve, having to wait until after dinner to open your birthday presents and counting down the last few days before school is out and the summer holidays begin are all fond memories for those of us beyond the tender years. Now, moments of anticipation come less often. On those rare occasions when anticipation gets the best of us jaded adults, I like to chalk it up as a youthful level of enthusiasm rather than a bout of nervous tension.

It was after such shameless anticipatory salivation that Audi's ultra-hot TT coupe arrived. Having previously enjoyed a week in a 2000 model, my excitement was intensified. Now, my enthusiasm had nothing to do with faith. A sure knowledge existed that pure unadulterated adrenaline would soon permeate every fiber of my being. OK, that last one was a little over the top. Suffice it to say that I was stoked!

What's so good about it? You don't just drive Audi's TT, you wear it. It virtually translates each thought into an immediate and exact mechanical response. Although some might find the cockpit confining, with its mere slits for side windows, most will allow themselves to become assimilated, melding man with machine - akin, but a lot more comfortable, to straddling a race replica motorcycle.

Inside, radial bezels cap organic ventilation tubes that span from the windshield's base to the edge of the dash. The click of each dial, the tactile sensation of every switch and precision feel of all instrumentation adds to the TT's appeal. With every glance, eye candy abounds. Designer pieces here, mechanical precision there. The TT is industrial art on wheels.
