More like the four-door LUXURY car
The cabin greets you with sumptuous leather, a great sound system and an excellent finish. The centre stack hosts easy-to-use switchgear, although Nissan’s typically-tilted navigation controls are a far reach. The seat temperature switches are also awkwardly squeezed ahead of the gear lever where there isn’t much room for your fingers.

By adding the Premium Package, you also obtain rear-seat climate and audio controls, which I find a little irrelevant.

By adding the Premium Package, you also get luxury items such as a power rear sunshade, a dual-panel moon roof that brightens up the cockpit, a cooled driver’s seat and wood grain trim.

You also obtain rear-seat climate and audio controls, which I find a little irrelevant. Who’s going to buy a Maxima to get chauffeured around? One thing’s for sure, I’m not telling my kids what those buttons are in the fold-down armrest, ‘cause they’re going to fiddle with them and blow my eardrums out while I’m driving. There’s an override switch up front, though.

Although Nissan gave the car a body that looks out of the ordinary, it actually is more impressive in person than in pictures. The front and rear overhangs are a little long, while pictures of the Maxima’s nose make it seem much more massive than it really is. The car’s greenhouse seems narrow, but interior space is generous; it’s actually the car’s hips that are fat, as the Maxima is two and a half inches wider than an Altima.

By the way, the car’s Sonoma Sunset paint isn’t getting too many positive comments around the office water cooler, which you can only get if you choose the Sport or Premium Packages. The car looks better in lighter hues like silver.

The 2010 Nissan Maxima starts out at $39,450 and our test car includes both the Premium Package ($2,800) and the Navigation Package ($2,200). Add $135 for metallic paint, and the total invoice rises to $44,585.

Always with the Premium Package, you get luxury items such as a power rear sunshade and a dual-panel moon roof.
