More than 20 million self-driving cars are expected to be on the road by 2035, according to a recent study by IHS Automotive. This number is way higher than previous estimates.

“Global sales of autonomous vehicles will reach nearly 600,000 units in 2025,” said Egil Juliussen, Ph.D. and director of research at IHS Automotive.

Beyond that, IHS experts foresee a whopping 43% compound annual growth rate between 2025 and 2035 as more and more drivers embrace this type of vehicle.

Will this actually happen? Well, another study by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) reveals that 45.8% of people want no autonomous capabilities at all in their cars. Just 15.5% said they would like a fully self-driving vehicle, The Detroit Bureau reports.

What about you? Is a self-driving car in your future?
