Just when the traffic was about to disperse and the road began more beckoning curves, we had arrived. Jennifer and I chose a small bed and breakfast, called 'Snow Country Cottage', just south of the main Village. It was a cozy home with all the necessary luxuries (such as an outdoor hot tub) nestled amid tall evergreens. Naturally, our host took more of an interest in the Porsche than his new guests. I'm usually game for car talk, so I showed him the ins and outs of the C4. The front storage compartment has room enough for a small suitcase and very little else. The diminutive rear seats, often criticized, fold down to offer a flat shelf to stow yet more luggage. Personally, I would consider the absence of 'micro-seats' a deterrent in choosing a sports car. Much like many Porsche owners I have a child, which makes living with a two-seater out of the question, even as a second car. My daughter sits in the back of the C4 and loves it. From a six-year olds vantage point, its visibility is excellent through both the small side window and forward to the road ahead (such 'practical' information should be helpful in persuading your significant other to the 911 cause).
After settling into our room, we left to the village for something to eat. Whistler is a shop shop-oholic's paradise. Most of the town has been transformed into a snow-covered shopping mall, albeit, executed with wonderful taste. There is a certain west coast rustic charm to the buildings themselves, each different yet endowed with a similar motif. Large picture windows are lodged between oversize beams. Colorful stucco walls straddle tall granite foundations. Residents and tourists alike are found ambling along the many cobblestone lanes that connect hotels, pubs and restaurants. The Olde Spaghetti Factory - a popular cheap spot - endeared our eyes with old world antiquities while satiating our stomachs with pasta, bread and ice cream. Our well intended plans of dancing the night away in one of Whistler's alluring nightspots was consumed with post-pasta fatigue. That said the hot tub back at the cottage had an even greater magnetic pull.
